The focus of this Gold Leaf Restoration Series: Ingilding, Toning, and Casting is the repair of the gilded surface with new water gilded gold leaf inserted into areas of gilding loss and applied Toning to blend with the existing Finish. Additional attention is paid to mould casting for missing ornamentation and other areas of Restoration.

- Learn to prepare gesso and clay bole to prepare the ground for Ingilding, the layering of gold leaf inbetween sections of an existing gilded Finish using the traditional water gilding method and 23k gold leaf.

- Learn to make gesso putty for filling holes and gouges.

- Explore a non-toxic silicone method of creating moulds for casting missing frame ornaments in hydrocal, a form of plaster.

- Gain an understanding of gesso consolidation for stabilizing loose gilded gesso with rabbit skin glue as a binder.

- Discover methods of burnishing, rubbing, and toning to blend the newly laid gold leaf with an existing gilded surface.
