Horsehair Polishing Cloth. A traditional, mildly abrasive cloth woven from natural horsehair fibers. Essential in the Traditional Water Gilding process, it is used to smooth and refine the Bole clay surface before the application of Genuine Gold Leaf. Gilders Asphaltum - 1 Pint U.S. A darkening liquid for creating shade effects on gold leaf. Solvent based. Manufactured in the USA. Asphaltum Varnish in a glaze is capable of creating wide spectrum of colors. Thin coats of Asphaltum Varnish appear light gold, while Medium coats of Asphaltum Varnish create rich Copper tones, Heavy coats of Asphaltum Varnish create Bronze Burnt Umber undertones and Very thick coats of Gilders Asphaltum Varnish appear Black and opaque. Many Antique Vintage Mirrors have Asphaltum Varnish as the original Backing Paint after the Glass was Silvered. Asphaltum Varnish was applied to add depth and scratch protection. Asphaltum is used in reverse glass sign work, in sandblasting frosted glass, glue chipping as a resist and shading effects. Gilders Asphaltum Varnish is one of the worlds oldest of coating still used today.

Back-up Paint: The thick screen ink used as a "back-up" paint for gilded glass. 8 oz container. Gilders Gold Leaf Backup Paint - Used as a Backup Enamel when backing up Gold or Silver Leaf while glass gilding. Gilders Back Up is packaged in Silk Screening Consistency, & for Brushing may be thinned with Turpentine or Mineral Spirits. 15 minutes dry time.

Window Spar Varnish. Solvent based back up varnish for gilding on glass. 8 oz container. Used as a final overcoat for reverse glass work. Use for scuff and scratch protection and limited resistance to cleaning chemicals. Dry in 2 - 3 hours depending on environmental conditions. Apply with a brush or roller. Reduce with Mineral Spirits 5% - 10% to use in airbrush. INDOOR USE ONLY

Suitable for use wet or dry, it is especially valued for creating soft, aged patinas on gilded surfaces. Rottenstone is typically applied after a preliminary rub with coarser pumice, providing a smoother, glossier final polish. It is also effective for leveling varnish, refining lacquered finishes, and gently buffing stains or imperfections from wood.

Pumice Powder - Extra Fine. Pumice Powder is used as an abrasive for rubbing gilded surfaces at achieve an antiqued worn effect. It is also used to degrease your gilders knife and gilders pad. It can be mixed with water or oils to make a paste which is then used to polish surfaces.
