Gilding Tip Made in German. A wide Squirrel hair brush used for lifting or applying genuine leaf to the artist's surface. Tips are available in a range of widths and lengths all having cardboard handles. Tips are manufactured in two weights, single and double, with the double tip having more hairs.

LeFranc burnishing clay (French) creates an exception gilding surface for all Traditional Water Gilding applications. LeFranc Burnishing Clay is available in three traditional colors, premixed with water.

All of these burnishing clays must be mixed with rabbit skin, hide glue or gelatin glue before applying.

Lefranc Premix is already prepared into a paste making it easier for gilders who make their own bole solution.

Rabbit skin glue is produced mainly from shaved skin parts of rabbits, has extremely high cohesion properties, and has distinctive color and odor. Similar to Hide Glue, it is highly refined, consistent, processed and formed into small cubes. Rabbit Skin Glue has a Bloom strength of 400 making it much stronger than Hide Glue and is recommended for mixing with gilder’s clay to make gilder’s Bole.

Liberon Blonde Dewaxed Shellac Flakes

Dewaxed Blonde Shellac Flakes

Pure shellac flakes produces a light transparent colored shellac finish.

Blonde Dewaxed Shellac Flakes creates the perfect French Polish and is ideally suited as a barrier coat for gilded applications and for antique restoration on wood surfaces and furniture.

The finish dries quickly and has a luxurious feel once rubbed out. Shellac is also 100% natural and non-toxic.

Shellac in flake form allows you to mix up only as much as you need in order to minimize waste and maximize shelf life.

Production Method

- Add 250g of shellac flakes to 1 liter of methylated spirits and allow the shellac flakes to soak for a minimum of 24 hours or until all the shellac flakes have dissolved.

- Stir or shake occasionally to help the shellac flakes to dissolve more easily.

- More shellac flakes or methylated spirits may be added to adjust the strength according to your preference.

- Store in a cool, dry place.
