Shell Silver is made from genuine, finely ground silver powder bound with gum arabic and dried into traditional tablet-style cakes, following time-honored illumination methods.
Ideal for calligraphy, manuscript illumination, iconography, and fine detail painting, Shell Silver offers precise control for lettering, line work, and delicate metallic highlights.
Used like a watercolor tablet, Shell Silver is activated with a damp brush and painted directly onto the surface. It re-wets easily, flows smoothly, and allows for controlled application in small or intricate areas where silver leaf would be difficult to use.
Shell Silver is also well suited for retouching and conservation work, making it an excellent choice for touching up gilded frames, paintings, icons, and decorative surfaces without disturbing surrounding leaf.
