BOLE - Kolner Insta-Clay
A single process base for water gilding, Insta-Clay eliminates the need for glue, gesso and bole. Developed by Kölner-GlanzGold-Grund to meet the demands of the commercial producer of gilded objects, Insta-Clay is used to prepare moldings and other items for gilding. This new process replaces the complex and labor intensive steps associated with traditional water gilding.
Insta-Clay is a cost effective sprayable, water soluble acrylic resin with pigments, producing excellent results on a wide range of gilding projects. The high solids content guarantees excellent coverage when applied with a low pressure sprayer. Gold and Silver leaf are applied using standard techniques of water gilding. The COLNASIZE CONCENTRATE (see below) makes the appropriate gilder's liquor for water gilding over Insta-Clay.

Colnasize Concentrate
COLNASIZE CONCENTRATE makes the appropriate gilder's liquor for water gilding over Insta-Clay.
An easily prepared size/adhesive for the adhesion of gold and Silver leaf to KÖLNER Insta-Clay and BURNISHING CLAYS. Dissolve one measured teaspoon in two cups of lukewarm tap water to make gilder's liquor.

BOLE Kolner Burnishing Clay
The Kolner Burnishing Clays are made from the finest English clays and are used at room temperature. Unlike traditional clays (bole), they are pre-mixed and there is no need to add glue or adhesives. Several layers are applied in the same manner as gesso and traditional clays. Colors can be mixed with each other to create additional shaded. Available in five colors in 500ml and 1 liter jars. A liter will cover approximately 120 Square feet (Based on one layer application). Burnishing Clay LeFranc Traditional BOLE - LeFranc burnishing clay (French) creates an exception gilding surface for mall Traditional Water Gilding applications. LeFranc Burnishing Clay is available in three traditional colors, premixed with water in 750ml jars. All of these burnishing clays must be mixed with rabbit skin or hide glue before applying.
